You are a great person; you have a wonderful family, great career, nice life. In other words you are a regular successful human being. However, unexplainably you find that you feel at the bottom of the world and wish you were dead.  One moment you feel on the top of the world, and the next you are scrapping the bottom of the ocean. What is happening to you, you will wonder? Why are you swinging from high to low?

You Are Suffering From Manic Depression

This is a sentence that can be as devastating as to the sufferer as to the near and dear ones as well. Manic depression is an affliction that keeps you on a complete roller-coaster of feelings If for a period you are on the top of the world, the next period you will be totally suicidal. As a matter of fact this is the greatest of the manic depression patients – the threat that they would choose to commit suicide, and many times succeed at it.

You will need to learn to read the warning signs and act accordingly. When manic depression affected person is feeling high, you will find him/her bubbling with energy and positive feelings.  Nothing can be wrong, nothing can go wrong; and if something does go wrong, then it can be handled.  Everything is fine and the person feels just great.

On the other hand when the moods are on the reverse, the slightest trigger can have the person shut down totally. The person will feel totally sick, anxious, worthless, and guilty and he/she will be totally unable to apply any logic to the way he/she feels.  Appetite will vanish, sleep will vanish and the manic depression patient will wonder why they are living at all. This is the time when they will become suicidal.

Manic depression unfortunately is incurable and people who suffer from it will have to deal with it throughout their life.  Of course, medication and therapy help to a great extent as is the continuous and unstinting support of spouses, family and friends. However, do not be kidded about it. Manic depression is tough to handle and it will take a lot of courage and strength to keep yourself on the right track.

The good news is that it is possible. There are millions of people out there, who know they are suffering from manic depression and they are making the best of their lives with the right medication, meditation and therapy. The problem is when the person does not know they are suffering from this malady.

Do You Think You Are Prey To Depression? Take A Self Depression Test And Find Out

January 7th, 2008    Subscribe To Our Feed

We all have our blues and we all know that when we go down, we will also bounce back sooner or later. The normal blues are sometimes triggered by something that someone said, or something that you thought, or something that you feared – and sometimes the blues come really out of the blue, without any explanation, without any warning, rhyme or reason.  At these times, the best you can do is hang on in there and wait for the blizzard to wear off.

How Do You Know You Are Suffering From Depression Or Not?

Sometimes you are unable to climb out from the pits for a long time; sometimes you climb a little only to slip further back and sometimes you find yourself more in than out.  When and how will you know whether you are suffering from depression or not? There are some simple self depression tests that will tell you clearly whether what you are suffering from is depression or just plain blues. This is what you have to look for:

1. Are you feeling totally withdrawn from the regular pleasures of life? This is a very accurate self depression test – try out something that you know is supposed to give extremely pleasure (such as your favorite hobby, your favorite movie, shopping, etc) and if you find that it leaves you unmoved, then this is a sign that this is depression.

2. Are you forgetting an awful lot of things with no recollection at all even afterwards? Depression causes hiccups in your memory and you will find that certain things are totally wiped out from your memory, leaving you totally baffled. This is another point from the self depression test which gives a very accurate indication.

3. Do you find that you cannot sleep at all or very little during the night? Check out carefully about why you are not able to sleep at night. Is it because you are drinking coffee or some similar stimulants or do you not really have any logical reasons for it? In case you do not have an answer for it, then the self depression test will give you another clue about your state.

4. Do you find that you have lost your appetite? Sometimes, not wanting to eat or not feeling like eating is normal. However, if you turn nauseous even when you are served with your favorite dish, then the self depression test is confirming depression.

If you have one or more of these questions answered with ‘yes’ then you are suffering from depression. Get hold of yourself and get professional help!

Teen Depression Occurs In Nearly Five Percent Of Teenagers, Supposedly

January 4th, 2008    Subscribe To Our Feed

Depression is really an illness when feelings of unhappiness, despondency as well as desolation do not seem to leave the adolescent and causes interference with the teenager’s ability to function. Teen depression is very common and it is believed that as many as five percent of teenagers are afflicted by depression at any given point of time.

Possible Reasons Could Be Stress, Family Situation Or It Could Be Genetic

Teen depression may be seen in children under stress who may have lost out on something or whose attention, learning capacity, conduct or anxiety disorders can be said to be more prone to depression. The incidence of teen depression is more common among teenage girls and among minority youth. A reason for teen depression could be problems at home and also occurs if there is already a depression in one of the family members.

Teen depression behavior may be different to the behavior of adults who are depressed and the characteristics can differ since most teenagers or children may have additional psychiatric disorders and these could be behavior disorders or substance abuse problems. There are certain signs and symptoms that may occur in teenagers which would indicate teen depression and these include frequent sadness, tearfulness as well as crying. One sure sign of teen depression would be a teenager who wears black clothes, writes poetry with sinister themes or is excessively obsessed with nihilistic music. Crying may also occur without there being any apparent reason for it.

Another sign of teen depression is hopelessness where the teenager may feel that life holds no advantage for them and there is a consequent lessening of efforts to keep clean or maintain a hygienic appearance. The teenager may be convinced that negative circumstances may never change and so feels very pessimistic about the future. There is also an instance of teen depression when the teenager becomes apathetic and leaves the club of which he or she is a member of or gives up on sports or other activities which they had enjoyed previously. The energy levels may be low in teenagers suffering from teen depression and this is seen in missed classes or bunking of school altogether. Grade averages go down and this may be a consequence of lost concentration and diminished thinking capabilities. There may also be social isolation and low self-esteem and feelings of guilt.

What Are The Clinical Depression Symptoms?

January 3rd, 2008    Subscribe To Our Feed

Depression is a serious mental and emotional disease.  Thankfully, it is fully curable, provided it is diagnosed before it develops into chronic depression. Even chronic depression is curable, but it takes much more time, effort and medication.

What Is Clinical Depression?

This is the first step of depression. The clinical depression symptoms are easily recognizable, if you are in close contact with the depressed person.

1. He/she feels upset all the time, with or without reason – the person who suffers from clinical depression will feel overwhelmed by even the smallest negative thing that happens; at that time they feel that they need to end their lives, because they are not worthy to live.

2. He/she cannot, despite their best efforts, enjoy their free time with friends. You will observe that the depressed person would prefer to be alone with his/her thoughts and not bother about company and having fun.

3. The depressed person would develop continuous headaches, stomach aches very similar to ulcer pains, chest pains and so on. On checking out with a doctor, they would not indicate that anything is amiss.

4. Possessing a very low self-esteem – this is one of the most obvious clinical depression symptoms, i.e. low self esteem. The person would not mind any mistreatment from anybody, because they would really believe that they were not worth any better treatment.

5. The depressed person will tend to forget things; initially small things, but later on the forgetfulness will turn out pretty scary.

There are quite a few excellent remedies that can answer to the treatment and cure for each of these clinical depression symptoms. There are medications for depression, but it’s still better to use natural remedies. The John’s Wort is a special herb which is famous for the treatment of depression. Then there is acupuncture which has been proven highly effective, excellent (if I may say) in any some of the cases.

Along with all of this, it will never harm to tell prayers to God. Prayers, medicines and meditation will help you beat depression totally. As a matter of fact, turning to your faith when you are depressed makes you feel great. Meditation is another great way to relax your mind and body; check out what they have on clinical depression symptoms on the Net – which is indeed plenty.

Last but definitely not least; you will need to adopt a certain fixed nutrition which will help you beat the depression. Your health is highly influenced by the type of food you eat, hence it is important to pay attention to the nutrition of the clinically depressed person exhibiting symptoms.

Information on depression suggests that depression may cause interference in a person’s normal functioning and affects them at work as well as in social and family situations. It is a painful experience both for the patient as well as for close relatives and friends and serious depression may result in the destruction of family life as well as that of the person affected.

Merely feeling sad is not symptomatic of depression and nor is the tiredness felt after a hard day’s work or feeling discouraged when confronted with a serious problem. According to information on depression, it is the intensification, lingering on as well as interference with normal work that may be thought of as being depression. Also, depression may touch anyone and after being identified, the diagnosed person can be successfully treated and can recognize what depression is; this is a first step to treating it.

Other information on depression that is available suggests that almost two thirds of people who are depressed may not be able to get adequate treatment and there are many reasons for this such as not recognizing the symptoms, symptoms may be disabling and so prevents the patient from reaching out for help and also, sometimes symptoms can be wrongly diagnosed. In addition, often individual symptoms are treated instead of treating the root cause.
